Mandelic Acid + Superfood Unity Exfoliant

YTTP Superfood Unity Toner_desseydoll_2.jpg

My skin type: Balanced/dry.

Ideal for: Sensitive, blemish-prone, oily and combination skin types. (Friends with texture buildup and redness will love this — I can attest!)

Product details:

The Mandelic Acid + Superfood Unity Exfoliant is a pro-grade vegan™ leave-on exfoliator that blends three gentle acids and superfood antioxidants together to allow for a smoother, healthier and balanced skin barrier. Through a gentle exfoliation, the toner aids in fading dark spots, decongesting the skin and boosting hydration.

Instantly — Calms down redness and irritation.

With continued use — Minimizes the appearance of pores, aids in diminishing hyperpigmentation/discoloration and texture.

Product claims:

  • Gently exfoliates + cleared pores

  • Evens skin tone + fades dark spots

  • Smooths skin + controls congestion

  • Boosts hydration + supports barrier health

Dessey tip: Excessive redness? This pairs beautifully with the Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream.

Texture and scent:

Texture — Water-light liquid.

Scent — Fresh and light like superfoods and Tea Tree oil, if you will.

How to use:

After cleansing, saturate a cotton pad (reusable if you can!) with the solution. Sweep over the skin avoiding the eye area. You can also apply the solution by applying a bit into the palms of your hands and pressing it into the skin. I like both methods! Youth To The People recommends following up with their Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream.

Key ingredients:

— 3% Mandelic Acid (AHA): Mandelic acid is known to be one of the more gentle AHAs. It’ll help exfoliate the skin by shedding away dead skin cells and aids in hyperpigmentation/discoloration. AHA works wonders to smooth the skin.

— 2% Salicylic Acid (BHA): Salicylic acid is lipid-soluble which helps to decongest and aids to remove build up in the pores alongside minimizing the appearance of enlarged pores.

— 1% Gluconolactone (PHA): PHA is known to be a very gentle exfoliant. The Gluconolactone will help gently remove dead skin cells from the dermis with little irritation.

— Superfood Blend: Antioxidants, phytonutrients and essential vitamins from super greens kale, spinach and green tee aid to protect and fortify the skin for a healthy barrier.

— Glucosamine: A stellar compound to support hydration and aid in brightening.

— Licorice Root: An antioxidant to aid in discolouration and fade the look of dark spots. Licorice Root is also great to help soothe the skin.

My experience + thoughts

The results speak for themselves while my gratification is celebrated through a healthy skin barrier. A stellar launch.

3 uses

3 uses

Toning and exfoliating are two of my favourite steps in my routine. Though I’ve tried many, there’s nothing like the Unity Exfoliant. It thrills me that I can incorporate an exfoliating toner into my routine on a daily basis without it being too irritating or heavy! After just three uses, the Unity Exfoliant left me stunned with results I’d only dreamed of — Aiding in redness reduction and texture. I know for a fact I’ll always have this gem on my top shelf forever. Youth To The People continues to bring innovation to the beauty world through their incredibly unique formulas and this one doesn’t fall short.

With no stinging or irritation, the formula has a ton of calming ingredients that help soothe the skin upon application. Nonetheless, it is still an exfoliant so be sure to use it accordingly with SPF as your last step in your morning routine!

Mandelic Acid + Superfood Unity Exfoliant VS. Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Toner

UNITY EXFOLIANT — Gentle for daily use to help balance the skin’s pH levels, gently exfoliate, smooth and hydrate.

KOMBUCHA TONER (Read my review here) — An exfoliant for 1-2 times a week. Kombucha Power Toner is a triple-action power toner that’ll smooth skin texture, minimize the appearance of pores and firm the look of skin. Formulated with a blend of 8% lactic acid and 3% glycolic acid, this powerhouse of AHAs delivers deep exfoliation and balanced skin. With the Kombucha Black Tea and Tree Bark ferments, they work as prebiotics to enhance the skin’s natural microbiome. This helps break down overproduction of natural oils to relieve congestions in the skin and allow for a radiant glow.

UNITY IS THE SOLUTION — A beautiful message intertwining both skincare and real-life.

Packaging + user experience

Ten times more convenient than the Kombucha toner’s packaging, the Unity Exfoliant now has a flip cap instead of a twist cap. The glass bottle is beautiful and sits elegantly on my vanity.

Superclay Purify + Clear Power Mask

2021-03-30_YTTP Power Mask_desseydoll_10.PNG

My skin type: Balanced/dry.

Recommended for: Blemish-prone, oily and combination skin types. (Friends with visible blackheads will love this, I can tell ya…)

Product details:

The Superclay Purify + Clear Power Mask is the first clay mask to be supercharged with high-performance niacinamide to purify pores and improve skin clarity.

Instantly — Deep cleans pores, absorbs excess oil and gently exfoliates.

With continued use — Pores are less visible, clearer complexion, even skin tone and strengthens the skin barrier.

Product claims:

  • Purifies and tightens pores

  • Clears skin and complexion

  • Absorbs excess oils and mattifies

Dessey tip: Although this claims to mattify, I can confirm that it leaves the skin with a soft-to-touch, radiant finish, all things considered with it being a clay mask.

Texture and scent:

Texture — Creamy.

Scent — Fresh and clean like superfoods.

Both the texture and scent of the Power Mask are reminiscent to the Superfood Skin Reset Mask, which is now discontinued. (But hello, the upgrade here!)

How to use:

Apply an even layer to the skin and leave the mask on for 10 minutes. Rinse off the mask and pat dry, following up with your favourite moisturizer. YTTP recommends their Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream. Use the mask 1-3 times a week or as needed.

Key ingredients:

— French Green Clay (Kaolin Clay): Absorbs excess oil and extracts impurities from the skin without drying out active acne.

— White Clay (Kaolin Clay): Draws away excess oils while smoothing and softening the skin without stripping, drying or sensitizing the skin barrier.

— Volcanic Clay (Bentonite Clay): A mineral-rich clay that detoxifies the skin by removing environmental stressors, excess grime and congestion that leads to blemishes.

— Niacinamide (2%): Visibly tightens pores, promotes elasticity and improves skin clarity.

— Kombucha Black Tea: Contains potent peptides that’ll work as prebiotics to enhance the skin’s natural microbiome.

— BHA: An oil-soluble exfoliator that helps unclog and clear pores.

— Red Willow Bark: Soothes and calms the skin while helping reduce visible redness.

— Blue Algae: Rich in antioxidant vitamins and minerals to help get rid of environmental stressors and free radials.

My experience + thoughts

It was the instant results that did it for me. I mean… look.

2021-03-30_YTTP Power Mask_desseydoll_2.JPG

To rewind, the Superfood Skin Reset Mask was my all time favourite face mask. When I found out it was discontinued to be upgraded to something more innovative, I hope I’d fall in love with it just as deeply. And to my not-surprise, I did. After just one use, I knew this was top shelf status for me. The Power Mask holds its own weight beautifully.

With a heavy amount of congestion with our face masks accompanied by environmental stressors, maskne is inevitable. Not only did the Power Mask instantly decongest my skin, (especially the cheeks and chin), but it helped soothe redness and calm down any active breakouts by “flattening” them without drying them down. What’s super cool is that you can SEE the mask working while it’s drying down on the more congested areas of the face. For a clay mask, I’m almost shocked at how soft and hydrated my skin feels after rinsing it off.

Quite frankly, the Power Mask is the quickest performing product I’ve ever tried. Not only do I just freaking love it for how rapid I see results, but I love that it’s an upgrade to my favourite OG Superfood Mask packed with tons of incredible ingredients. So, if you’re a Superfood lover like me, I know you’ll absolutely fall in love with this one too. I use the mask about twice a week while incorporating my other YTTP favourites within the routine. (The Superberry Hydrate + Glow Dream Oil after rinsing it off — trust me.)

The message of power manifesting within us translates so well not only with this launch but the company as a whole. Power to the people. Power to love. Power to you. Power to me.

Review: Crabtree & Evelyn Bali Rice Exfoliating Cleanser

It’s the soothingness, for me.

I have a weakness for a good powder based exfoliant in my skincare collection, and, well, now I have a new one to share with you. Today I’ll be reviewing Crabtree & Evelyn’s Bali Rice Exfoliating Cleanser.

My experience + thoughts

A keeper.

As someone who likes to switch up her ways of exfoliating, powder based cleansers are always my preferred way to physically exfoliate when it’s not chemical. The Rice Exfoliating Cleanser is such an easy cleanser to incorporate in any routine, honestly. I love the way it froths and it doesn’t strip my skin. With a minimal ingredient list, the cleanser is packed with soothing ingredients and gentle enough to use every one to two days.

Packaging + user experience

I absolutely love the bottle. It dispenses the powder in small doses so it’s not overflowing at once.

Brand Review: Fur

All for one and many for all.

In today’s sponsored post, I’ll be individually reviewing each Fur product that’s currently on the market. Let’s get into it and intuitive, baby. Alongside breaking down each product, stay tuned until the end of the post to see how I use each product specifically and how they differentiate from one another.

desseydoll_FUR Review_3.JPG

Fur claims: Fur products have been safety tested dermatologically and gynecologically to EU regulation standards, which are stricter than US standards. That being said, if you experience irritation discontinue use, and of course consult your doctor regarding your specific situation. Fur Oil

What is it: A lightweight oil for pubic / body hair.

What it does: Fur Oil is designed to soothe and soften pubic and body hair while clearing pores to prevent ingrown hairs.

Key ingredients:

Grape Seed Oil as a vitamin E, D and C complex that’ll hydrate and nourish the skin, absorb quickly without leaving a greasy residue.

Clary Sage Oil as an antibacterial essential oil and astringent to soothe redness alongside any post-shaving or waxing irritations.

Tea Tree Oil
as a powerful antimicrobial essential oil that eliminates excess sebum in the pores which helps prevent ingrown, bumps and allows the skin to heal quickly.

View the full ingredient list here.

desseydoll_FUR Review_5.JPG

MY TOP 5 FAVOURITE WAYS TO USE FUR OIL

  1. Post shaving / waxing.
This is my number one favourite way to use Fur Oil. For my preference, I shave my legs and underarms and get my bikini waxed. (It’s just so much easier and takes up less time!) In general, I don’t have a lot of body hair. Ever since I started taking care of it, I’ve always made sure to moisturize post-shave or wax to ensure healthy and nourished skin. Using Fur Oil right after has helped tremendously, especially to soothe any present or potential irritations. I also love using it to condition hair until my next shave or wax appointment. It leaves my skin feeling so smooth, soothed and soft.

  2. As a body oil + mixer.
As someone who takes body care very seriously, I always condition my body with creams and oils after a shower. Using Fur Oil alone or mixed with a body creamed lathered all over me? A dream.

  3. Brow conditioner.
Quick and easy: Use Fur Oil to condition your brows. It’s packed with so many nutritious ingredients that’ll help soften hair, everywhere.

  4. Body spot treatment.
Use on any areas on the body that need extra care, including irritations, dry patches, itches, burns or anywhere you think needs it.

  5. As an overall skin treatment.
I can’t begin to tell you how Fur Oil has helped soothe and brighten darker areas of my skin, including underarms and between my thighs. It’s so comforting knowing there’s a product out there to help heal something I’m insecure about.

My experience: A never ending one.

I can’t even keep track how many full size and mini size bottles of Fur Oil I’ve finished to this date. Or have in my collection at the moment. Fur Oil is one of my favourite wellness and skin products I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying and continuously use in my day to day. It allows for a pleasant experience in my routine, not only on my hair but on my overall mindset of how I choose to take care of it. I’d recommend this to everyone and anyone, at anytime, morning, evening, in the bathroom, bedroom or anywhere in between.

Silk Scrub

What is it: A gentle and exfoliating body scrub.

What it does: Silk Scrub is meant to buff away dead skin cells using gentle acids as a hybrid for a soft physical exfoliant and powerful chemical exfoliant.

Key ingredients:

Jojoba Beads as an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic beads. They’ll unclog follicles to prevent ingrown hairs and remove excess sebum.

Papaya and Pineapple Enzymes to help gently exfoliate the skin. They’ll break down hair follicles to make pores appear smaller and fight inflammation.

Glycolic and Lactic acids used as the chemical part of the exfoliant. AHA’s will break down the bonds between the skin cells to enhance natural moisturizing abilities and brighten uneven skin tone.

Clary Sage Oil as an antibacterial essential oil and astringent to soothe redness alongside any post-shaving or waxing irritations.

View full ingredient list here.

Texture and scent: This scrub dispenses a super thin, soapy, creamy-like texture. When massaging it onto the skin, you feel the slightest physical exfoliation with the Jojoba Beads. It smells earthy with hints of Fur Oil.

How to use: Fur recommends when in the shower, massage Silk Scrub onto your skin—or, for extra exfoliation, leave it on as a mask for up to 10 minutes. View their full recommended use tips here.

My experience: She’s a keeper.

I really enjoy using this to help with texture, bumps, irritations and KP on arms and legs, especially between my thigh and bikini area about 2 times a week. I haven't found a scrub gentle enough to do so in those areas, and the fact that this has natural enzymes and acids really packs the punch in such a gentle way. I’ve also noticed a lot more brightening in the underarm and inner thigh areas. I’m a little impatient to be standing naked and wait for this to do it’s thing for 10 minutes as a body mask, so I like to massage it on the desired area for a good 2 minutes and then rinse. I’ve noticed a difference if used consistently, and I look forward to keeping and reaching for it on my shelf always.

Ingrown Concentrate

What is it: A healing and soothing treatment to help banish bumps and redness.

What it does: Ingrown Concentrate is made to irradiate ingrown hairs, sooth irritations and smoothing the skin while accompanied with a finger mitt. It’ll result in clean and smooth pores, even on the most sensitive skin types.

Key ingredients:

Coconut Oil to to help deeply penetrate hair follicles and moisturize the skin. It’ll help soften any ingrown hairs so that the removal process will be easier.

Tea Tree Oil as a powerful antimicrobial essential oil that eliminates excess sebum in the pores which helps prevent ingrown, bumps and allows the skin to heal quickly.

Tamanu Oil as a antimicrobial oil to help soften and moisturize the skin. Derived from the tamanu nut, this oil is packed with moisturizing omega fatty acids and antioxidants, promoting new and healthy cell growth.

Chamomile Extract to help calm the skin and soothe redness. This is a natural and powerful antioxidant that’s been used for ages.

Texture and scent: The Concentrate is a little thinner than Fur Oil, and smells a little more potent than it. Lemon-y, if you will.

How to use: Fur recommends to use the finger mitt to exfoliate around 3-5 times a week, and use the Ingrown Concentrate as many times as needed. View their full recommended use tips here.

My experience: A life-changing relief.

I found a red bump on my breast. The concern? Inevitable. For weeks, I was putting Fur Oil and creams to soothe it. The redness calmed down, but the bump was still there. So, I went to my dermatologist. "Despina, it's just an ingrown hair, and you have nothing to worry about. It'll go away with time." I was recommended a cream, and guess what? I didn't buy it. Something clicked in me to try my Ingrown Concentrate that I had yet to use, and I'm so happy I did. Weeks of worry and patience, the bump diminished, diminished and diminished more and more until it pretty much went away. I can't even begin to tell you how relieved I am to know there's a product out there that ins't filled with chemicals, that I can apply topically on such a delicate area on my body.

desseydoll_FUR Review_1.JPG

Stubble Cream

What is it: A hydrating and regrowth-refining body cream.

What it does: Stubble Cream is lightweight and fast-absorbing to maintain smoothness and help prevent ingrowns, bumps and razor burns.

Key ingredients:

Olive Extracts to help hair appear finer as it grows back in while softening the stubble with fatty acids, vitamin E, and antioxidants.

Tea Tree Oil as a powerful antimicrobial essential oil that eliminates excess sebum in the pores which helps prevent ingrown, bumps and allows the skin to heal quickly.

Tapioca Starch as a moisturizer extracted from the cassava plant. Instead of using silicones that are usually found in creams, this natural ingredient replaces them.

Lavender Oil as a relaxing and aromatic scent booster, also used as an essential oil rich in antioxidants with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

View full ingredient list here.

Texture and scent: This cream feels very liquid-like and melts into the skin instantaneously. There’s barely a noticeable scent, and if I have to put a name on it, maybe similar to Fur Oil.

How to use: Fur recommends using Stubble Cream after shaving, or between lasering or waxing sessions. View their full recommended use tips here.

My experience: Interesting. But all in good favour.

At first, I was a little thrown off with the texture of this cream. It dispensed more liquid-y than I thought, so that was something I had to get used to at first. I enjoy using this post waxing and shaving around my bikini and underarm area, as it also helps really keep those areas smooth and protected. I have to say, I don’t have many irritations a few days after using this cream. I think this is like the cream version of Fur Oil, but Fur Oil will forever win over this because it pretty much does the same thing for me, but a little more moisturized.

Aloe to restore suppleness to the skin and soothe any irritations.

View full ingredient list here.

Texture and scent: The soaked-mitt smells exactly like Fur Oil. In regards to feel, it’s super gentle when massaging it onto the desired area. A tougher cotton, if you will.

How to use:

Fur suggests to use Ingrown Eliminator all over, on any bumps or ingrowns that need combatting. View their full recommended use tips here.

My experience: YUP!

I’m in love with these little ones.

I love how easy, convenient and biodegradable they are, first off. I love using the Ingrown Eliminator as a brightening treatment for my underarms and a soothing treatment for my bikini area. After the shower about once ever two weeks, I’ll take a mitt and gently massage it on my underarms which results in a brighter, smoother complexion. I noticed a difference in brightness in just a couple of uses, and I can say the same thing for the bikini area as well! It’s also great for the inner thigh area to help get rid of any post-shave / wax irritations. These mitts are a forever thing!

My experience: Refreshed and refreshed.

Ideal for after a run, post-gym or just a midday refresh. I love the concept of an on-the-go wipe, especially for those who have little physical mobility.

I really do enjoy using these wipes. They feel refreshing and clean, although I find them to be a little too soaked and fragrant. As much as I love the Fur Oil scent, it gets overwhelming when also mixed with sweat and bacteria. Overall, a great on-the-go treat especially for travel and ideal for a flight.

Review: Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner by Youth To The People

More power to me.

desseydoll_ YTTP Kombucha Toner_7.jpg

Now with a total of 10 products in their line, Youth To The People’s latest addition, Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner is a beautiful addition to complete the whole youth routine. Before launching, their team sent over the toner for me to test and I feel so empowered.

Youth To The People is 100% vegan, sustainable and clean cruelty free made in California.

Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner claims: Free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, pegs, mineral oil, silicones, artificial colours.

Suited for: All skin types.

Kombucha + 11% AHA Exfoliation Power Toner

What it is: An exfoliating toner.

What it does: Kombucha Power Toner is a triple-action power toner that’ll smooth skin texture, minimize the appearance of pores and firm the look of skin.

Key ingredients:

8% Lactic Acid and 3% Glycolic Acid to deliver exfoliation while still maintaining a healthy pH balance. The AHAs will revitalize dry and dull skin and help with cell turnover, smoothing skin texture and reduce the appearance of pores.

Kombucha Black Tea Ferment contains potent peptides that’ll work as prebiotics to enhance the skin’s natural microbiome.

Pichia Lysate Ferment (Tree Bark Ferment) to help restore the skin’s elasticity and help reverse any signs of oxidative damage.

Ginger Extract enhances the AHA’s ability to smooth skin texture. Ginger Extract is an effective anti-aging superfood!

Citrus Bioflavonoids with lemon water extract increase antioxidant activity. When paired with AHA’s, these flavonoids are delivered to the skin instantaneously and look for pollutants.

 View full ingredient list here.

Texture and scent: The Power Toner feels gentle on the skin. Once absorbed, it feels a little tacky but sinks in quickly. The scent is kombucha-y, subtle, obviously, but not overpowering. I personally don’t smell it when sweeping it across my face. I only smell something if I put my nose to the bottle.

How to use: Youth To The People recommends using the toner at night after cleansing, 3-5x per week.

View full recommended use details here.

My experience: Am I dreaming?

As I write this, I genuinely feel speechless looking back at how my skin looked after only two days of using the toner. I’m a sucker for a chemical exfoliant, and I always dreamed of the day that Youth To The People would launch one. After only a couple of uses, I can affirmatively say and see, clearly, that this is my new favourite acid in my routine.

As someone who’s used to acids, the toner didn’t tingle too much at first. On a scale of 0-10, 10 being a burn of a chemical peel, this tingle was a 4.5. I’m in love with the way it sweeps on my skin, smooth and not “glassy.” It actually leaves the skin very moisturized. YTTP claims that the skin will feel smoother and softer after one use… and well, guess what? My skin felt, looked and radiated smoother, softer and brighter after literally one use …And then I woke up in the morning, and was left speechless. My hyperpigmentation was lighter, and blemishes were diminished by 60% and by the next day, 80%.

For my routines using this toner in my testing period, I tried and still am using their recommended Power Facial which is for a night routine. Acids are powerful, and for me personally, work most effectively in the evening to allow proper penetration without much disruption during sleep. Always remember to wear SPF in the morning, especially after acids touch your face.

Youth To The People Power Facial

Prep: Cleanse skin with your usual nightly cleanser. Pat dry.

I use the Youth To The People Superfood Cleanser.

Exfoliate: Saturate a cotton round in Kombucha Power Toner and sweep over face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Do not rinse.

Activate: Mist face and neck generously with Adaptogen Soothe + Hydrate Activated Mist for an added boost of hydration.

(Trust me, you’ll really love a cool down after exfoliating!)

Treat: Apply Superberry Dream Mask to the face and neck for ultimate brightening.

I like sweeping toners across my face and then patting them into the skin for optimal results.

Hydrate: Apply nightly moisturizer to lock in hydration.

Usually, I’d stop at the Superberry Dream Mask since it’s really thick and buttery, but I really wanted to follow their suggested use routine, so I applied the Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream on top of a thin layer of the dream mask, allowing about 30 seconds between each step.

Don’t have those YTTP products above? Don’t worry! Follow these steps as a guide to help prep and hydrate the skin pre and post-exfoliation.

I’m so glad I followed their suggested routine because my skin looks and feels it’s best at the moment. I’m mostly speechless to see how quickly the blemishes diminished and how my pores near my cheek area look less visible, allowing for a smooth canvas. My face is radiating. I truly look forward to seeing how my skin reacts to this toner moving forward because so far, I’m head over heels for it. Here we are with another star five product review from my favourite Western skincare brand, Youth To The People.

Review: Kylie Skin

Here we are, Foaming Face Wash, Vanilla Milk Toner and Face Moisturizer all in one place. Not only on my shelf, but happily on my face, too.

Kylie Skin_desseydoll_2.PNG

I had a feeling this would come to life one day. I’m here to review the products, not Kylie. My initial thoughts blossomed from my curiosity as to how someone with her accessibility to top chemists and labs, would use her resources to create a skincare line and formulate the products with great ingredients and innovative developments in the beauty industry at this time. As I’m not sure how innovative that went, I’m quite excited to be writing this review. As always, I’ll be breaking down the claims, ingredients / pH levels, personal experiences and overall thoughts. This may just be the most detailed review I’ve written to date.

In this first launch, Kylie came out with six products accompanied with makeup removing wipes and a travel bag. Launching an SPF in this first launch would’ve been key. Especially with Kylie’s influence, having an SPF first would’ve been a very smart move not only for business but for educational purposes, too. I recently watched her vlog where she mentioned that they’re currently working on creating one which is great news. An SPF isn’t always easy to develop as there are tons of regulations that need to pass with the FDA.

Kylie Skin_desseydoll_10.jpg

As she previewed the products before launching, the Foaming Face Wash, Vanilla Milk Toner and Face Moisturizer caught my eye right away. In regards to trying her other three products, I didn’t feel the need to purchase them. I was somewhat interested in trying her Vitamin C Serum, but couldn’t justify buying it since I have a few others waiting for me to try at home. The Walnut Face Scrub was something I was debating over, but didn’t purchase for two reasons: One, being that walnut shell powder is abrasive and two, that I didn’t need it. The Eye Cream was the product that had the least of my interest. I don’t think eye cream is all that necessary to begin with, and I already have a few on my shelf that need to be used up first.

Kylie Skin claims: Cruelty free, gluten free, vegan, paraben free, sulfate free, dermatologist tested.
Please note that having “dermatologist tested” slapped on a label doesn’t justify anything. The term is very up in the air as we don’t know the source or how to debunk it and inevitably, skincare should always be tested properly.

Suited for: All skin types. (I saw Kylie mentioned she’ll be working on different lines targeted towards different skin types in the future)

With no expectations, it’s time to experience Kylie…

Kylie Skin_desseydoll_9.jpg

Foaming Face Wash

What is it: A luxurious foaming face wash.

What it does: The Foaming Face Wash claims to gently cleanse the skin while helping retain moisture levels and improve elasticity. It also helps removes excess dirt, oils and makeup. It helps brighten the skin as well.

Key ingredients:

Glycerin as a humectant to help balance the moisture levels in the skin.

Kiwi Seed Oil as an antioxidant and rich source of Vitamin C & E which helps to hydrate, nourish and brighten the skin.

Sodium Hyaluronate (a derivative of Hyaluronic Acid) to help hydrate and plump the skin. Hyaluronic Acid is one of my favourite ingredients in skincare!

Notes:

Please note that just because active / key ingredients are listed as “key", doesn’t mean they are. The “key” ingredients in this cleanser including Kiwi Seed Oil and Sodium Hyaluronate are unfortunately at the bottom of the ingredient list which doesn’t make them main ingredients. This occurs in most of the products which you can simply discover by looking at the ingredient lists.

Water and Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate are the first two ingredients in the list. PCG is an amino-acid derived cleansing ingredient that softens the skin, derived from coco fatty acid. It’s mild and non-drying.

Formula pH level: 7.5 which is high for a cleanser. Normally, cleansers should have a pH balance of 5.5.

Texture and scent: The texture feels very luxurious as it gradually becomes more “creamy” when massaging it into your skin. This cleanser is lightly fragranced with fragrance being at the middle / bottom of the ingredient list. I’m not for fragrance in skincare but it’s less likely to irritate your skin in a wash off product rather than a cream or toner. It has citrus notes but in my experience, I stop noticing the scent after I start massaging the cleanser onto my skin.

How to use: Kylie Skin recommends to use this morning and evening. In my opinion, I’d use this as a second cleanse if you’re wearing makeup and a first cleanse if you aren’t.

View full recommended use details here.

My experience: I’m really not mad about it.

The first three times I used it, my skin was lightly tingling. Was it because of the citric acid? Was it because I applied products too quickly after? As I used it more and more, I really grew to like it. So now, I can say I really do enjoy this cleanser. It’s gentle and surprisingly does NOT leave my skin feeling stripped or dry after rinsing it. I personally don’t have issues with foaming cleansers stripping my skin, so I wasn’t too concerned about this one. It feels very luxurious at it lathers and foams in a very rich fashion on the skin the more I massage it in. Now, in regards to the fragrance, we could really do without it. It was too strong for me at first which almost made me stop using it completely. The more I used it, the less noticeable the fragrance was which is now okay for me. I’m generally not too sensitive to fragrance, and as much as it affected me at first, it’s not bothersome anymore. Honestly, the line smells light and gentle, baby-doll pink vibes. Weird, but it just does. (Caroline Hirons described the “baby” scent in such an accurate way!)

The cleanser is gentle enough to use morning and evening, although I wouldn’t recommend to use it to remove makeup. It’s ideal as a second cleanse after removing makeup with an oil based cleanser first, or as a first cleanse on a bare face to remove minimal products, light concealer or SPF.

My skin really enjoys this cleanser. I notice an instant balance in regards to my overall complexion despite the 7.5 pH level. It’s gentle and I only need to use one pump for my full face.

Vanilla Milk Toner

What is it: An alcohol-free toner.

What it does: The Vanilla Milk Toner claims to replenish the look and feel of the skin while helping rebalance its pH levels. It also helps to remove any excess dirt, oil and makeup. Kylie Skin claims it also helps unclog, purify and minimize the appearance of pores.

Key ingredients:

Apple Fruit Extract as an antioxidant to help improve the look of the skin.

Squalane as a skin-strengthening oil. With highly refined moisturizing properties derived from olives, squalane helps restore the skin’s moisture barrier. (Third listed ingredient — I’m obsessed with squalane!)

Avocado Oil & Apricot Kernel Oil as emollients to help soothe, soften and restore the skin’s hydration levels.

Other ingredients to note are Sweet Almond Oil, Banana Leaf Extract, Sucrose Cocoate, Jojoba Seed Oil and Sodium Hyaluronate.

Formula pH level: 5.5

Texture and scent: This toner feels like a light essence. It’s milky and lightweight. This toner is alcohol free and lightly fragranced with fragrance being at the middle / bottom of the ingredient list. The consistency and scent are VERY reminiscent of Too Cool For School’s Egg line, especially their Egg-sential Fluid Toner, which is my favourite skincare line I’ve ever tried. I noticed a lot of people were saying that the Vanilla Milk Toner has a very strong vanilla sent but I really don’t notice it. It’s light, gentle and the furthest thing from nauseating. It’s a very gentle “baby” scent, yet again.

How to use: Kylie Skin recommends to use this morning and evening.

View full recommended use details here.

My experience: Obsessed.

I absolutely love this toner. For me, it’s a toner and essence all at once. I say that because of the texture. I absolutely love how plump and dewy it leaves my skin. For the first few times I used it, I swiped it across my face with a cotton pad. It was a little slippery because of the milky consistency, so I decided to then tap and press it into my skin, and I love, love, love using it that way. It’s so nourishing and my skin drinks it up while allowing the following steps to absorb into the skin beautifully. Waking up in the morning after having using it the night before, my skin looks just as dewy and healthy as it did when I first applied it. I love the ingredients and I love squalane, so it’s no surprise I love this toner. My skin looks so balanced and healthy after using it. I have a little weakness for it because it reminds me of the Too Cool For School Egg line.

Face Moisturizer

What is it: A smoothing face moisturizer.

What it does: The Face Moisturizer claims to help hydrate the skin with a combination of humectants and emollients. The formula will condition the skin for a soft-to-the-touch formula without heaviness, greasiness or oiliness.

Key ingredients:

Shea Butter to provide moisture to the skin.

Banana Leaf Extract, Oat Bran Extract and Orange Peel Extract that help smooth and soften the skin.

Glycerin as a humectant to help balance the moisture levels in the skin.

Aloe to help soothe the skin and help decrease redness.

Texture and scent: This moisturizer claims to be fragrance free, although contains Orange Peel Extract… Not all fragrance is synthetic. There are natural fragrances that are irritants to the skin as well. The moisturizer doesn’t smell like anything, and if anything, it’s reminiscent to First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream or Oatmeal Mask. The formula does contain Oat Bran Extract which I love. It feels really lightweight and sinks into the skin immediately.

How to use: Kylie Skin recommends to use this morning and evening.

View full recommended use details here.

My experience: DEW ME.

This moisturizer is incredible. It’s super lightweight and great for morning and evening. It’s crazy how healthy and beautiful my skin looks after using it. I really love it, although I wouldn’t mind a LITTLE more nourishment (ingredient wise) but besides that, it’s great. It sits beautifully over the toner and under makeup, allows for a beautiful, fresh face canvas. Like Kylie describes it, it the formula conditions the skin for a soft-to-the touch finish, without any excess oil.

Overall thoughts:

  • The packaging is high quality and sturdy, soft to touch.

  • The pricing is reasonable.

  • The ingredients / formulations are repetitive.

  • Good: Kylie launched the essential steps to a good, basic skincare routine. (Minus SPF)

  • The wipes are useless. You should be double cleansing to properly take off your makeup.

  • Kylie Skin, in my opinion, is targeted towards an audience who isn’t as invested in skincare / skincare education but want a basic routine, or for a younger audience that are looking to get into skincare.

I really do enjoy all three products I’ve reviewed. I didn’t go into them with any expectations as I try not to when testing new products. I’m not disappointed in the slightest. Now, with that being said, I’m also not over the moon swooning for Kylie Skin, and that’s because it’s a very basic skincare line. But basic can also be good, and it’s good enough for me to say I enjoy the products I’ve tried. I look forward to seeing how the formulations and ingredients will mature with her future launches, and how the products will continue to grow on me. Suited for all skin types, I’d recommend the toner and moisturizer as my favourites, which I can see myself repurchasing as well. Yes, the cleanser is gentle, but the pH is pretty high. Between you and I, there are hundreds of products I’d recommend over Kylie Skin at this time, but right now, I’m content with my purchases and results so far.

As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.

Review: Bubblewrap Lip + Eye Cream by Glossier

I’m so excited to finally share my thought’s on Glossier’s latest skincare launch, Bubblewrap, a lip + eye plumping cream.

desseydoll_Bubblewrap_8.JPG

Healthy skin is healthy skin at any age.

Now, I normally couldn’t care less about eye creams because frankly, I don’t think they’re all that necessary. Depending on their formulations and key / active ingredients, some can be really effective. I, for one, think most are marketed to reel you in. The only “anti-aging” product you should want is preventative skincare from early on, accompanied with SPF. Also, how odd is the term “anti-aging?” It’s almost as if growing into your skin is frowned upon. And it should never be. Look for products with ingredients to help promote collagen and contain smoothing properties rather than “anti-wrinkle miracle workers.” 90% of the time, you’re investing in marketing over the product itself, with these expensive jars of nothing. On the other hand, with Glossier’s latest launch, I feel the complete opposite. I’m so glad I tried it, and I’m here to tell you why.

Pro tip: Always make sure to be gentle around your undereye area. You don’t want to be applying your face cream upwards towards your undereyes! That can cause milia, which are those little white bumps you find under your eyes. Face creams can be heavy, thick and potent which are too sensitive for such a fragile area.

Bubblewrap Claims: Hypoallergenic, dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested, safe for contact lens wearers, safe for sensitive eyes, paraben free, cruelty free and vegan.

Bubblewrap Lip + Eye Cream

What is it: An eye + lip plumping cream.

What it does: Bubblewrap claims that it’s specifically formulated to hydrate, moisturize and protect two very delicate and fragile areas, the lips and eyes. A “handle with care” type of treatment. The end goal is to have the undereyes and lips appear smooth, fresh and hydrated, “today and over time.”

Key ingredients:

Hyaluronic Acid Group: Hydrolyzed HA and Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer boost hydration for visibly plump skin.

Peptide Complex and Portulaca Pilosa Extract to increase the skin’s ability to hold water while promoting softness. PPE is part of the plantae kingdom with plumping properties.

Avocado Oil and Squalane to supply the skin with intense moisture. (Two of my favourite oils!)

Swertia Chirata Extract is extracted from a medical herb commonly found in the Himalayas which increases the skin’s smoothness, accompanied with Vegetable Protein for a smooth-skin look.

Blueberry Fruit Extract as a superfruit rich in antioxidants.

Keep note that this cream does contain silicones if you’re sensitive to them. I personally don’t mind.

Texture and scent: As Glossier describes, Bubblewrap’s texture is unique and featherweight, which is so accurate. “Light-as-silk, water-in-oil emulsion.” It’s so lightweight and feels like a gel cream. It feels like a gel but in such a silky, smooth, beautiful way. It’s definitely unique. It’s not heavy at all, and has a “cushion-y” feel to it. There’s no present fragrance which I’m happy about.

desseydoll_Bubblewrap_6.JPG

How to use: Glossier recommends using this cream morning and night, one pump for eyes and one pump for lips. (Always remember to use your ring finger to apply!)

View full recommended use details here.

My experience:

I look forward to using this after and before every sleep. This eye and lip hybrid is beautiful, and not only does it sit well on my shelf, but my skin, too.

Eyes

Bubblewrap sinks into the skin so quickly without leaving the skin thirsty for more. You know that feeling when your skin sinks up a product and it just feels… dry? Yeah, furthest thing from that. Especially on the undereye area, it feels so moisturized, plumped and silky. And guess what? That feeling lasts throughout the whole day. I love how unique the formula is. It’s refreshing. I’ve actually noticed a significant difference in the overall health and nourishment of my undereye area. It feels more bouncy, even and toned. Tapping one and a half pumps onto my ring finger, I love to massage the cream around my orbital bones and around my eyes in gentle circular motions and around my brow bone. I learned this technique when performing facials in esthetics school! It also sits great under concealer. Everything looks so lush and hydrated.

Lips

It’s a kiss from me!

I usually don’t like the wax sheen a typical balm leaves me with. Bubblewrap on the lips almost feels like a serum or treatment with how quickly it sinks into my lips and how luscious they look after. I’ll replace a balm with this at anytime. This is also the first time I’m trying a “lip cream” and it’s just so yummy and buttery.

Overall thoughts: I’m beyond impressed with this hybrid of a product and will definitely be repurchasing it. It’s definitely a top skincare discovery of mine this year, and I definitely foresee it being a staple in my routine. I guess I’m so for this because of how they market it and how it’s more of a treatment rather than some “anti-aging” nonsense. To me, Bubblewrap is meant to treat and protect. Why I love it in short: It’s silky and distributes moisture in all the right places. A shield. It’s gentle. It’s adorable. It’s a yes. Also, I mean… the name. And packaging. Come on. Super cute, super clinical-vibes with the design, travel friendly and dispenses just the right amount.

Review: Then I Met You Cleansing Duo

A few months after testing, my in-depth review for the Then I Met You cleansing duo is finally here. A sensorial experience, a scrumptious delight and two products packed with nutritious ingredients. Along with this review, I recently sat down with Charlotte Cho in her New York City head office to discover what jeong means to her. She acquainted those feelings when she introduced the sentiment of jeong when she launched Then I Met You. You can read the profile I wrote about her journey here.

Then I Met You focuses on going deeper. It’s more than just a double cleanse.

Side note: The cleansing duo is made for all skin types, cruelty free and vegan, free of sulfates, alcohol, parabens, artificial coloring and synthetic fragrances.

Living Cleansing Balm

What is it: A luxurious balm, oil cleanser that melts away oil-based impurities, makeup, sunscreen and excess sebum.

What it does: Removes impurities while nourishing the skin with antioxidants, essential fatty acids and vitamin E.

Benefits and key ingredients: Seaberry/Sea Buckthorn oil is rich in stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and omega-6 which are all fatty acids. From TIMY: The bright orange coloring is due to high lycopene and carotenoid content. With time the coloring will fade but does not diminish the effectiveness of the cleanser. Olive oil is a nourishing antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging benefits. Together, olive oil and sea buckthorn help restore the skin barrier. Persimmon extract brightens the skin. It’s a radical scavenger that prevents premature aging and photo damage. Grapeseed oil nourishes the skin while removing oil-based impurities in a gentle way. Vitamin E is a healing ingredient and is an essential component to healthy and nourished skin. It also has a ton of antioxidant properties. View the full ingredient list here.

Texture and scent: This is a sorbet-soft balm cleanser that smells like a mango sorbet. Hints of rosemary, persimmon and grapefruit add to the aromatic experience.

How to use: As your first step of the double cleanse, Then I Met You recommends to take the spatula and use a dime sized amount onto dry skin and gently massage to melt away the makeup. The best way to remove an oil based cleanser? Emulsify it with warm water to properly wash everything away to prepare for your second step water based cleanse.

My experience: The Living Cleansing Balm is one of the most unique cleansing moments I’ve ever experienced so far.

The second I opened the tub, I gasped. The colour, the decadent texture and the scent. It all just made sense. I remember taking the spatula and went deeper like it told me to. Melting everything onto my skin, the texture was the first thing I felt the most. It’s just… beautiful. It’s smooth and it’s juicy, it’s a delight. It feels like a mango sorbet. Pure silk. The Living Cleansing Balm has become one of my favourite first cleanses. It removes ALL my makeup so effortlessly. It’s not like a typical balm cleanser. I can directly apply it to my skin without even having to rub it into my hands. It’s not chunky, it doesn’t crumble up and it just feels like a dream. Even if I’m not wearing makeup, using it on bare skin is such fun experience. It’s super nourishing and soothing, unlike any other oil based product I’ve ever tried.

Details: C$51.00 approximately converted / USD$38.00 for 90 g / 3.17 oz | Available at Then I Met You | Comes with a spatula.

Soothing Tea Cleansing Gel

What is it: A gel cleanser with a jelly texture to soothe the skin.

What it does: Soothes, softens and awakens your skin. Followed as a second cleanse, it’ll also help remove the excess impurities from the first oil cleanse along with water based impurities.

Benefits and ket ingredients: Licorice root extract is a gentle and effective antioxidant to help even out your skin tone and and reduce free radicals. Green Tea is used as an anti-inflammatory oil packed with essential fatty acids. Rice ferment filtrate is rich in enzymes and amino acids as well as brightens the skin. Tea Tree Leaf is an herbal antioxidant with antimicrobial properties that’s commonly used for spot treatments and is gentle enough for acne-prone skin. Centella Asiatica in an antioxidant-rich ingredient made up of asiatic acid, madecassic acid, and madecassoside and several other actives. Centella Asiatica is wound-healing and moisturizing. Gluconolactone (PHA) is a gentle acid with exfoliating, moisturizing and antioxidant factors without sensitizing the skin. View the full ingredient list here.

Texture and scent: This cleanser is a fun, bouncy, stretchy, yummy cleanser that smells like tea. Like Charlotte says, it really does awaken your senses.

How to use: As the second step of your double cleanse, squeeze out a pea-sized amount on wet hands and gentle massage into your skin, removing all the water based impurities.

My experience: You’re unique in all your beautiful, jelly glory.

The Soothing Tea Gel has become one of my favourite cleansers. You know, cleansers in general have become so fun to me, especially when they’re packed with such delicious ingredients like this one. From the texture to the gentle foam, which is barely there at all, this cleanser is scrumptious. It’s super gentle for morning and evening, waking my skin up and instantly evening my skin tone. It’s super soothing and gentle feels SO refreshing. It quenches my skin, makes me feel alive and smells really delightful. It’s currently my go-to!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Details: Details: C$48.00 approximately converted / USD$36.00 for 100 mL / 3.38 oz | Available at Then I Met You

Overall thoughts: I love the cleansing duo together and apart. The day Charlotte launched the line, I ordered it in a heartbeat. The concept is brilliant, her story is lovely and the ingredients are just awesome. I do think they’re a little on the “luxe” and pricey side, but that’s subjective to everyone. I say luxe because of the price point, but regardless of a price point, any skincare product should feel luxurious as long as it makes you feel happy and alive. And the cleansing duo does. It’s more than just cleansing. More than a routine. It’s jeong. I truly look forward to Charlotte’s skincare journey and growth with Then I Met You and all her other endeavours to come.

You can shop the cleansing duo together here or individually.

2018 Skincare Favourites: Face & Body

I was thinking to myself, how will I narrow down the products that made not only my skin glow, my soul glow, but my year glow?

2018_Favourites_1.jpg

Here’s to the ones that I craved for on my drives home, dreamt of on my late nights, healed me from within out and allowed me to experience not only a physical fulfillment, but a sensory, eye-catching, tasteful experience to indulge in. I experienced many, but these ones have lingered and comforted me in many different ways.

The breakdown:

I’m breaking down my favourites by category in a K-beauty inspired order along with shower favourites. Let’s unravel, shall we?

Disclaimer: All products marked with a (*) were gifted to me. I also have a discount page you can check out if you want to grab a discount on some of my favourites. All other disclaimers are listed there.

Keep an eye out to see which product won my product of the year!

Eye and lip makeup remover

ZA Ziukoza Lip & Eye Remover by Too Cool For School

This baby takes off makeup like a dream. Non-irritating and gentle on the eyes, everything glides off in seconds without any weird residue. My absolute favourite even though I barely wear eye makeup. Oh, and don’t worry, mascara GLIDES off with it right away.

Oil cleanser

Clear Bloom Makeup Glideaway Cleansing Oil by Farmacy Beauty | *

This is one of those products that is completely underrated, and I’m sad about it. When Farmacy sent me this earlier this year, I was intrigued considering I hadn’t seen it float around online much. From the silky, gentle application to the emulsifying process, I love this oil cleanser as a first cleanse to take off light makeup which I wear, or even when I’m usually wearing nothing at all.

Side note: The oil is sold out on Farmacy’s site but is in stock on Walmart here. I’m fairly sure this product is being discontinued, but if you’re looking for an alternative, check out my favourite balm cleansers below!

2018_Favourites-23.jpg

Balm cleansers

I couldn’t choose one. I tried, and I couldn’t. They both give me a unique experience and I’m so happy about it.

Living Cleansing Balm by Then I Met You

From the second Charlotte Cho launched Then I Met You, I instantly felt pulled in and my heart felt connected. Ordering the cleansing duo on launch day was one of the best orders and gut-instinct decisions I’ve ever made. From the packaging, unboxing experience, colours, texture and scent, the Living Cleansing Balm is one of the most unique skincare experiences the universe has granted me with. Packed with nourishing ingredients and antioxidants, the luxurious, sorbet-like cleansing balm removes makeup like a dream.

Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Original by Banila Co

This one brings me back to my Seoul trip last April. I discovered the world of Banila Co while roaming the streets of Myeongdong. My first purchase was the new and improved Clean It Zero Cleansing Balm Original. With a gentle raspberry scent and gritty melting texture, this balm removes heavy makeup and excess oils without stripping my skin. It takes me back to Seoul every time. (A little goes a long way!)

Water based cleanser

Clean Bee by Farmacy | *

I didn’t think it would make it, but it did. And I’m really happy it did. Clean Bee is one of the most simple yet effective cleansers I’ve tried. Suited for all skin types, it’s beyond gentle and works great as a single or post oil cleanser. Sometimes, I feel like gentle cleansers are just, well… basic. I’ve grown to take the time and sit with one, embrace and understand that a cleanser can be as simple as a cleanser, as non-simple as that sounds. I only recently discovered how to effectively use it for me, by lathering it for a few extra seconds with lukewarm water. I didn’t like the honey scent at first, but with months of cleanses I’ve grown to fall in love with it. Without a doubt, one of my favourite skincare products in my collection.

2018_Favourites-28.jpg

Exfoliants

Egg-zyme Whipped Foam Cleanser by Too Cool For School

One of the coolest products of 2018. The entire egg line from Too Cool For School has blown me away. I mean, the Egg Mousse Soap is why I discovered K-beauty and began this journey. The Egg-Zyme cleanser has blown me away. It’s a super creamy, gentle, exfoliating foaming cleanser with derived enzymes from egg powders. It’s both a physical and chemical exfoliator due to the lysozyme particles as physical and the enzymes as chemical. It’s a literal melted marshmallow, fairy dust dream that leaves my skin feeling supple and clean. I know my mom uses this daily, but for me, 1-2 times a week works wonders. A unique product that allows for a truly unique experience.

2018_Favourites-30.jpg

Kale-lalu-yAHA : 5.25% Glycolic Acid Treatment by Krave Beauty

I absolutely love this chemical exfoliant for 3 reasons:

  1. It’s super gentle and works GREAT for beginners.

  2. I see instant results in terms of overall glowing and healthy complexion after wiping it across my face with an organic cotton pad. (I use these ones from The Face Shop - they’re my favourite!)

  3. It works wonderings in the morning and evening if used consistently. (Don’t forget your SPF, exfoliating or not!)

Toners and beauty waters

Alcohol-Free Cucumber Witch Hazel Toner by Thayers

I dream of you.

The cucumber toner from Thayers is by far one of my favourite products, ever. I don’t usually wash my face in the morning, so I tone with this and my skin is ready to go. To awaken my skin or to simply refresh, this toner is absolutely perfect for daily use, morning to evening. I can’t get enough. It’s also awesome if my skin is ever feeling irritated or has redness. It just works wonders at any place and any time.

Perfect Rice Bran Cleansing Water by Shingmulnara

Another gem I discovered at Olive Young when I was in Seoul last April. It balances my complexion and works great to remove excess makeup, dirt and oils post second cleanse. It has such a dreamy, light scent and brings me to a place of comfort.

Side note: I’m not really sure the best place to purchase it online, but Beauty Box carries the line from what I’ve researched.

Purity Micellar Cleansing Water by Philosophy | *

This is the first micellar water I’ve ever tried and I love it. So, I personally don’t think cleansing with micellar water is remotely close to being enough when taking off makeup, so I love using this post second cleanse or alone after a basic cleanse to tone and nourish my skin. It’s super hydrating and leaves my skin feeling plump.

Cleansing herb water by Belif | *

Another incredible product in my collection that lived up to my non-existing expectations. This cleansing water is incredibly hydrating and balances my complexion whether using it post cleanse or alone in the morning. The product contains Belif’s Tri Herb complex to relieve daily skin stress while keeping it cleansed, clear and fresh!

Essence

Secret of Sahara Essence: Grab Water by Huxley | *

When I first discovered Huxley, I was intrigued. When I was educated on their brand story and ingredient sourcing, I fell in love. The Grab Water is one of the most unique products that has ever come in contact with my skin. From the second I drop it into my hands and press it into my skin, my skin is quenched with love, nourished like an oasis of hydrated dreams and allows an aromatic experience of prickly pear cactus seed from the Sahara Desert. I love pairing this with their Fresh cream, which you’ll see in my favourites below.

Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil by Youth To The People | *

You know how much I love this baby already, right? I’ve already written an in depth review for you here. And yes, I’m still in love.

Turmeric Face Elixir by YLLO Beauty | *

If you’re looking for a product to nourish, nourish your skin, it’s this one. One drop goes miles, trust me. I’m so happy this worked for me. It feels so luxurious but not too heavy. It leaves me with the healthiest complexion, the most beautiful glow and happiest smile. I love using this alone or under a moisturizer, even right before makeup. An absolute staple in my collection, indeed.

renewing dew concentrate by Philosophy | *

I experienced something I never have before after pressing this into my skin: Immediate, but when I say immediate, I mean IMMEDIATE results. I remember, gently massaging it into my skin, feeling baby smooth, hydrated and just… perfection. I can’t even explain how awesome this product is. It layers perfectly under moisturizer and sinks into the skin with ease. Allows for an inner glow and feels invisible on the skin. Maybe I should just review it…

Honeymoon Glow by Farmacy | *

It made it to the favourites and let’s just say I’m happy I have a backup. Read my review for it here.

Mists

Low ph PHA Barrier Mist by COSRX | *

Since I don’t do skincare in the shower, (I’ll talk about it soon, don’t worry!) I love to use this post shower. It’s an awesome mist to help protect the skins barrier from the heat and excess elements from the shower.

It took me a while to figure a way to incorporate this gem into my routine, but I came to love using it at any step. Post masking, before moisturizer and in the morning.

Be patient - products can take months to love, just like this one for me. Explore them and take your time with them!

Cooling Aqua Facial Mist by COSRX | *

REFRESHING NATION, HI!

This mist is one of my favourites! From the gentle nozzle mist to the subtle cooling sensation, this baby works wonders layered or alone. Stunning for any season and works great as a setting spray, too!

Sheet mask

Cocoon Willow Silky Mask by 23 years old

I’ve never experienced anything like it. With opening holes only for the eyes and nostrils, this mask is unique in it’s form, ingredient list and texture all in one. I’ve already reviewed it here.

Masks

Overtime Mask by Summer Fridays

My product of the year.

I didn’t think I’d love it this much, but I do. I crave it, morning, afternoon and evening.

I’ll start off by saying this... After I’m done working overtime, work me overtime...

I remember pulling over to the side of the road on launch day and ordered it right away through the Summer Fridays site before it launched at Sephora. I couldn’t wait, my heart was pulled to it. Even though they don’t ship to Canada through their website, I made it work.

Let alone the awesome ingredient list, scent and results, I truly believe the main reason I fell in love with this is because of the immediate results. The immediate healthy complexion and radiating surface. I reviewed it over here and I encourage you to get a sample or even purchase it if you can.

Speechless.

Pumpkin Sleeping Pack by Too Cool For School

I was really close of titling this one my product of the year… But I’ve loved it for a couple of years and still do. I always will. I’ve come to realize that pumpkin enzymes in skincare might be one of my favourite ingredients. I love this overnight mask for many reasons, mainly because of how lightweight it is, how gentle it is, how stunning my skin feels in the morning and how smooth my surface is. It’s such a comfort blanket for me, one that I’ll never let go of. This mask brings me back to New York City in 2017 when I first visited their Soho flagship store which is now closed. I remember receiving a sample that looked like this, and I was so intrigued by it. The packaging, concept. I fell in love. It makes me reminiscent of those times.

(And no, no pumpkin scent!)

Secret Of Sahara Healing Mask: Keep Calm | *

At this point, they’re all equal to me.

The healing mask has truly healed me in many ways. I love the experience of sitting with it as it works its magical wonders. The texture is almost like a thicker aloe vera jelly that sits on the skin, eventually sinking in as it dries. It smells

I started my review with I didn’t “believe” in eye creams until this one. Read it here.

Moisturizers

Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream by Youth To The People | *

The Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream is truly one of the best moisturizers I’ve tried this year. I have a full in-depth review of it here, where you can also read a review on every product from their line. I’ll be testing and reviewing their new Superberry Hydrate and Glow Dream Mask soon.

Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer by First Aid Beauty

I absolutely adore this as a primer, a glowing luminizer that allows for a healthy glow within. The texture is lightweight, yummy and the scent is too. It’s so refreshing and stunning under makeup or alone. One of the best moisturizers I’ve tried, and a little goes a LONG way. You can read my mini review here.

All-In-One Egg Mellow Cream by Too Cool for School

I have no words to describe this one. The Egg Mellow Cream is one of the most unique products out there, undoubtedly the most unique moisturizer I’ve ever tried, or should I say, experienced. From the ingredients, benefits, texture / consistency and scent, I’d recommend this to everyone with any skin type. I’ll try to leave a review soon.

Secret Of Sahara Cream: Fresh And More by Huxley | *

Paired with the Secret of Sahara Grab Water Essence by Huxley, this duo is my morning breakfast. For my skin. The cream has such a unique texture, sort of like a gel-like, thicker water cream that melts into the skin. It’s so refreshing and the prickly pear seed oil smells so natural and fresh. This may be my favourite moisturizer of the year.

SPF

Anthelios Ultra-fluid Lotion SPF 60 by La-Roche Posay

I’m on my third bottle, what does that tell you? So, I’ll try to do a post all about SPF. Because, well, we all need SPF. Whether it’s raining or sunny, cloudy or not, we need it.

This is not only my favourite SPF ever, but one of the coolest products I have. Since it’s a fluid, it’s super lightweight and melts into the skin. It has a very watery consistency and feels so lightweight, absorbing into the skin quickly. And when I say it melts into the skin, it leaves no white cast. It only leaves the PRETTIEST glow that you’ll have to try for yourself to understand. I’m not sure why LRP claims it to have a matte finish. If you want to have fun with SPF, go for this one.

Hello Sunny Essence Stick Fresh SPF 50+ PA++++

Another gem that brings me back to Seoul. I also think If you want to have fun with SPF, go for this one too.

SPF in stick form is so practical for under makeup and easy re-application throughout the day on bare skin without having to use your fingers. I love this baby because of how refreshing it feels and works under moisturizers and makeup. The packaging is also fun.

I discovered the sticks in Korea and I love them so much. There are two others in the collection that I’m really intrigued in trying as well.

Brand Review: Youth To The People

Good morning, sweet world.

After testing every product from Youth To The People, I thought I’d write a review on each one individually. There are currently 7 products in the line, ranging from a cleanser, serum, creams and an oil. You’ll notice that kale and spinach are two of the most common ingredients used in their products. Their two latest launches include some new and interesting ingredients that set them apart. Buckle up, because I’m about to start cold-pressing.

Side note: All products are made with 100% vegan ingredients, cold-pressed extracts, recyclable packaging, made in USA, no animal testing, no parabens, no phthalates, no sulfates.

YTTP_1.jpg

Superfood Cleanser

What is it: A daily gentle face wash powered and formulated with cold-pressed ingredients and antioxidants. Essentially, a green juice cleanse for your face.

What it does: Cleanses skin without stripping or drying your skin barrier, balancing the pH levels. It works to prevent build up from free radicals all the way to dirt in the pores, removes makeup and nourishes the skin.

Custom Superfoods Blend: Kale, Spinach, Green Tea, Alfalfa, Vitamins C, E, K | View full ingredient list here.

Benefits and key ingredients: Kale is rich in phytonutrients and vitamins C, E and K. A phytonutrient is a substance found in certain plants, believed to help prevent certain diseases and has health benefits. Spinach will help soothe the skin and boosts the skins high natural moisture content. It also has cooling properties. Green tea is used as an anti-inflammatory oil packed with essential fatty acids.

How to use: Youth To The People recommends to use the cleanser twice daily in the morning and evening, no toner required. (Usually, I’d use a toner, but this cleanser really does balance the skin enough to skip it if that’s something you’re down for!)

Texture and scent: This is a gel cleanser with a fresh, clean and herbaceous scent.

My experience: I never did morning cleanses until I tried this cleanser.

My skin type is normal, and since I do a lengthy routine in the evening I find it unnecessary to do one in the morning. (This cleanser is also great for any skin type!) With this cleanser, it’s just different. In the morning, I’ll spray my face with mineral water, pour a little cleanser into my palm and gently massage until the gel starts to lather. I then wash it off with cold water, and it is THE most refreshing skincare moment I have in the morning. I look forward to you. You instantly brighten me. You make my mornings ten times happier. You take care of me by making sure there isn’t any dirt or free radicals just laying around on my skin. To cut it to the point, I love you with all of me and I’m thankful to have you in my life. You really are a glass of freshness, crisp greens and water for my face. (It’s also amazing as a second cleanse. I personally wouldn’t use it to take off makeup because I double cleanse with an oil cleanser and follow up with a water or gel based cleanser!) It’s one of my favourite cleansers ever.

Superfood Firm and Brighten Serum

What is it: A super serum, high-performance elixir that illuminates the skin with age defying antioxidants. The Hyaluronic Acid will also plump and brighten the skin.

What it does: Brightens, plumps and firms the skin.

Custom Superfoods Blend: Kale, Spinach, Green Tea, Alfalfa, Vitamins C, E, K | View full ingredient list here.

Benefits and key ingredients: Tripeptide 5 is a peptide complex that will visibly help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Peptides are tiny proteins and active molecules which have anti-aging benefits and derive from collagen broken down into amino acids. The crosslinked Hyaluronic Acid will aid the skin in keeping its moisture and leave the skin plumped. Casually known as a natural hydrator. The chelated Vitamin C is an essential antioxidant for the skin which will prevent the skin from aging and counteract the effects of pollution and free radicals.

How to use: Youth To The People recommends applying two pumps onto damp skin after cleansing, and for best results to be used morning and night. You can follow with a moisturizer to lock everything in. (Tip: Always wait a little before directly applying moisturizer over a serum to allow the serum to sink in!)

Texture and scent: This is a light gel serum with no scent.

My experience: A definitive yes.

It does exactly what it says. Plumps, brightens and firms the skin without leaving it tight. It’s super lightweight and effective. I personally haven’t used it in the morning, but in my experience, using it at night works great for me. I wake up and my skin feels smooth and balanced. Always remember to wear SPF especially if a product has some sort of Vitamin C derivative. Your skin will be more susceptible to sun damage.

I’d recommend this to anyone who’s getting into serums and wants something simple and effective.

Superfood Skin Reset Mask

What is it: A superfood mask to reset the skin by instantly balancing and restoring dull and tired skin.

What it does: Resets your skin from environmental stressors and free radicals. It’ll detoxify and hydrate the skin, too.

Custom Superfoods Blend: Kale, Spinach, Green Tea, Alfalfa, Vitamins C, E, K | View full ingredient list here.

Benefits and key ingredients: Spirulina is a sea-based superfood packed with phytonutrients along with vitamins K and B12. Microalgae is a nutrient-rich source packed with exfoliating enzymes and essential minerals. It’ll speed up cell turnover. Kale is rich in phytonutrients and vitamins C, E and K.

How to use: Youth To The People recommends applying an even layer to clean, dry skin. Follow up with a serum and moisturizer! Tip: Apply a thick layer of the mask to dryer areas of the skin that need more nourishment and hydration. (Babs from the YTTP team recommends mixing the Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil with the mask. Dream team!)

Texture and scent: This is a creamy, soothing clay-based mask with a fresh, clean and see greens scent. (It smells very similar to the cleanser - fresh!)

My experience: In all of your beautiful, superfood glory…

You win. This mask is lovely to apply and remove. I wouldn't even consider it a clay mask for how soothing and moisturizing it is. It’s difficult to find a clay one that doesn’t tighten up the skin or dry it out, but this one truly feels like a buttery, moisturizing dream. I see instant results of a balanced glow, um, hi, hello. Here for it. The ingredients, though. Living for the microalgae! Safe to say, it’s the best clay mask I’ve ever tried to date.

Superfood Peptide Eye Cream

What is it: A nourishing eye cream that delivers vital nutrients to the skin.

What it does: Nourishes the under eye area with restorative vitamins, superfoods and peptides.

Custom Superfoods Blend: Kale, Spinach, Green Tea, Alfalfa, Vitamins C, E, K | View full ingredient list here.

Benefits and key ingredients: Kale is rich in phytonutrients and vitamins C, E and K. Aloe is a super gentle and acts as a lightweight skin-soother that has cooling and soothing properties. It boasts a high natural moisture content. Sunflower oil is anti-inflammatory packed with essential fatty acids. EFAs are critical in keeping the skin hydrated and plump.

How to use: Youth To The People recommends applying a small amount of cream around the eye area. (My tip: Always make sure to apply eye creams with your ring finger! It’ll apply the cream with the softest pressure in such a delicate area. Also, make sure you’re applying the eye cream in the proper area. Applying face cream in the eye area when it’s meant for the rest of the face can cause milia!) The cream is formulated to be the ideal primer for under concealer! Wait for it to absorb and follow with concealer.

Texture and scent: This is a smooth and rich eye cream with a light, clean and herbaceous scent.

My experience: I’m on this sunflower oil energy. Can we get more?

Yeah, I love it. Man, the more I write these reviews the more I realize YTTP hasn’t let me down. Eye creams can often be frowned upon but I’m here for this one. Just as much as it’s here for ME. I’ve been using preventative skincare for a couple of years now, so I don’t have any fine lines or wrinkles, but this cream almost instantly de-puffs and nourishes my under eye area as well as diminish ANY sort of fine lines. The next morning, my under eye area looks TEN times smoother than it did the day before. It’s lovely. I really they nailed this one. Ingredients and all.

If you’re looking for an eye cream that isn’t gimmicky and does what it says, go for it. It’s not this scary, anti-aging commercial miracle. It’s simple, effective and clean.

Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream

What is it: A lightweight, air-whipped moisture cream.

What it does: It restores, balances and conditions the skin with Hyaluronic Acid.

Custom Superfoods Blend: Kale, Spinach, Green Tea, Alfalfa, Vitamins C, E, K | View full ingredient list here.

Benefits and key ingredients: Kale is rich in phytonutrients and vitamins C, E and K. Green tea is used as an anti-inflammatory oil packed with essential fatty acids. Hyaluronic Acid will help the skin retain moisture and act as a natural hydrator.

How to use: Youth To The People recommends smoothing a dime-sized amount of cream onto the skin until fully absorbed. It can be used morning and evening. Tip: Use the cream as a makeup primer or even mix it with your foundation! I have to say, it works wonders as a primer. Side note: It’s great for all skin types but best for combination/oily.

Texture and scent: This is a air-whipped gel cream with a light, clean and herbaceous scent.

My experience: I’m getting emotional.

This cream was one of the first to be curated in my collection when starting my skincare journey. I remember buying the Superfood Youth Duo Mini and feeling all the excitement in the world. To this day, it’s truly one of the loveliest creams I’ve tried. I say lovely because of how delicate it is. It’s… It feels blurring. I can’t even describe it. It’s beautiful in the morning, leaving my skin refreshed and plump. Ugh. The best way I’d describe it? A sweet, gel-like, ultra-light marshmallow whipped, blurring dream.

I’ve recommended this cream to countless amounts of people and received nothing but good feedback. If you’re looking for an everyday moisturizer, add this to your cart.

Adaptogen Deep Moisture Cream

What is it: A deeply moisturizing cream with adaptogenic mushrooms and herbs to soothe the skin and adapt to skin stressors.

What it does: It soothes and calms the skin down with adaptogenic mushrooms and herbs when facing everyday stressors like UV rays and environmental pollutants.

Proprietary Adaptogen Blend: Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, Reishi, and Holy Basil. View full ingredient list here.

Benefits and key ingredients: Ashwagandha to heal stresses and overall exhaustion, being one of the most powerful adaptogenic herbs. Rhodiola to fight fatigue and increase resistance to stress while boosting skin strength. Reishi to help establish homeostasis in the body. (Adaptogenic mushroom) Pentapeptide to calm the stress reaction to sensitive and irritated skin. (Peptide complex)

How to use: Youth To The People recommends to apply the cream on cleansed skin every morning and evening. Works great after using the Superberry Hydrate and Glow Oil and Superfood Firm and Brighten Serum. Tip: The cream works wonders when used on freshly cleansed skin or simply on its own.

Texture and scent: This is a soothing cream with no added scent or fragrance. To me, it feels like a dream. It’s like a creamy cloud and butter on toast took shrooms and created a cream.

My experience: You’re beautiful in all of your soothing glory.

You adapt to me in the most soothing, creamy way. You feel so light and you apply so delicately.

You want to taste me?
Adapt to every part of me.
Forget your stresses and come lay with me,
I’d like to explore every euphoric part of you.
This trip isn’t one that’s booked, but one whose wonderland is filled with the beautiful glory of adaptation to non-existing colours, landscapes of love and sheer joy,
Because nothing is more satisfying than the feeling of love,
The feeling of you on my bare skin,
So hold me as I smother you,
And adapt to every part of you…

This is truly one of the best creams on the market. It’s all everyone’s talking about and that’s how it should be. My cheeks are prone to redness, from my youth all until present day. This cream truly helps with diminishing the redness. Adapts to my skin. Soothes it and keeps it moisturized from morning until night. And I love using it morning and night.

If you have a lot of redness and your skin feels stressed, this one’s for you.

“Take some shrooms, maybe have a good cry, about you...”

What it does: Hydrates and illuminates the skin with unique ingredients to illuminate, hydrate and revive the skin.

Custom Superberry Blend: Maqui, acai, prickly pear, goji berry, sunflower, jojoba, moringa and squalane. View full ingredient list here.

Acai is rich in omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids which will help revive dry and dull skin. Prickly pear is an extremely hydrating ingredient that helps ease apparent and subtle signs of redness. Goji is also rich in antioxidants, essential fatty acids with vitamins C and E. It helps fight free radicals as well as softens the appearance of fine lines.

How to use: Youth To The People recommends to apply the oil after cleansing. Applying 2-5 drops of oil onto hands, rub together and press into the skin. (I personally think 2-3 go a long way!) Great for morning and evening. Tip: Mix the oil into foundation or even contour sticks! It’ll leave the prettiest glow.

Texture and scent: This is a lightweight oil with a bright, fruit and juicy scent.

My experience: Smother me.

I’ve never tried anything like it. It’s ethereal. Can I even describe a product like that? I sure just did.

It’s just… It stands its own ground. The Superberry oil is so nourishing and melts into the skin so seamlessly. It’s not heavy and doesn’t feel greasy. This oil is ideal for everyday applied alone or with your favourite moisturizer. A little goes a long way which is so worth it in the long run if you’re using it daily. And the scent… the scent! It’s just so gorgeous. My skin literally craves this oil ever since I started using it. My overall complexion looks brighter, healthier and glowing from within. It also moisturizes the heck out of my skin, leaving it smooth and glistening. Also, the ingredients? Really? Youth To The People really did that. It’s an experience, to say the least.

I discovered Youth To The People a little over a year ago and I’ve fallen in love since the first moment I tried their products. Their mission and dedication to deliver skincare that ties in science and superfoods intrigued me and to this day still does. They’re different. I recently had a beautiful conversation with YTTP’s cofounder, Greg Gonzales, and decided to write a profile on him and the company. Read it here.

You are youth. You are loved.
